Summer Fun for the Whole Family: Free Activities for Kids

Is your wallet feeling a little thin this summer? Is the budget feeling the pinch? Don't worry. You're not alone. Many parents are struggling to make ends meet these days. But that doesn't mean you must stay home all summer long! You can do plenty of fun, affordable things to have a great time without breaking the bank.

There are so many fun things to do with your kids over the summer, but it can be hard to come up with ideas. Especially when budgets are tight. That's why I've put together a list of some of my favourite activities for you to try. From fun outdoor games to checking out your local area, there's something for everyone here. So get out those sunscreen and water bottles and prepare for summer fun!

Balloon Tennis

Balloon tennis is a great summer activity for kids. You can easily make it by painting paper plates, stirrers or a small stick, and balloons. Playing outside, you can hit the balloon with the stirrers. You can use the paper plate to beat the balloon if you're playing inside. It's a great way to get exercise and have fun simultaneously!

Messy (and fun) painting

When most people think of painting, they envision someone sitting calmly at an easel with a brush in hand. But there's no reason painting has to be so sedate - after all, the goal is to apply colour to a surface. So if you're looking for a painting project that's a little more active, why not try squirt gun painting? All you need is watercolour paper, watercolours, an easel, and a squirt gun. Just clip the paper to the easel and start shooting - but be careful not to get too close, or you might get soaked! Add more water to your gun and fire away for a bold look! Just be careful not to squirt yourself in the process. Squirt gun painting is a great way to add some excitement to your artwork, and it's also a great way to beat the summer heat. So grab your supplies and give it a try!

Water Balloon Pinata

Here's a fun and unique twist on the classic piñata! This Water Bag Piñata will surely be a hit at any party or celebration. Just fill it with water and let your guests take turns hitting it to release the waterfall. It's a great way to cool off on a hot day, and kids will love seeing how much water they can make pour out of the piñata. Plus, this piñata is eco-friendly and reusable so that you can enjoy it for many summers. So what are you waiting for? Get ready to have some wet and wild fun with this Water Bag Piñata!

Plant Your Own Garden

Summer can be a great time to teach kids about gardening. Planting flowers or vegetables is a great way to introduce them to the basics of horticulture, and it can be a fun activity that the whole family can enjoy together. Best of all, they'll see the fruits of their labour as their plants grow and bloom over the summer. So get out there and enjoy quality time with your kids while teaching them a valuable lesson about nature!

Plus, it's a great way to spruce up your yard or patio! If you don't have much space, you can plant flowers or vegetables in pots by your front door. Just make sure to water them regularly, and soon you'll have a beautiful (and delicious) display to enjoy all summer long.

Hiking

Taking the kids hiking can be a great way to get them outside and active. Choosing an easy trail first is essential, so they don't get discouraged. Once they see how fun it can be, you can start planning more challenging hikes. There are usually plenty of trails to choose from, so research to find the best ones in your area. Hiking is a great way to bond with your kids and create lasting memories. Plus, it's a healthy activity that everyone can enjoy.

Hiking is a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. It's also a great activity to do with your kids. To start, pick an easy hiking trail to do with your kids. Then, you can choose a more advanced trail weekly during the summer. Your local parks or trails will have plenty of options for you to choose from. If you're unsure, here are some great options.

Visit your Local Lake or Beach.

There's nothing like a day at the lake or beach to create lasting summer memories. Spending time in nature is good for your health and can also be a lot of fun. And what could be more fun than playing in the water on a hot day? So whether you're swimming, fishing, or paddling around, there's no doubt that a trip to the lake is a great way to beat the heat. Plus, it's an excellent opportunity to bond with your kids and create lasting memories. So if you're looking for a cheap and easy way to have some summer fun, pack up your picnic basket and head to your nearest lake, if you are in the midlands and missing the beach.

Early Morning or Late Night Walks

Walking is a great summer activity because it's free, easy, and can be done almost anywhere. Plus, it's a great way to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. If you want to avoid the heat of the day, take a walk early in the morning or late at night. You can also make it fun by turning it into a pyjama walk! Just wear your comfy clothes and enjoy a stroll under the stars. Finally, walking is a great way to spend time with your family and friends while getting fresh air and exercise. So get moving and enjoy all that walking has to offer this summer!

Build a Fort

Building a fort or tent is a great way to spend an afternoon, especially on a rainy day. You only need a few couches or chairs and some blankets or sheets. Push the furniture close together and drape the material over it to create your own little space. Then invite some friends over and enjoy a snack or play a game under your fort or tent! It's the perfect way to stay dry and have some fun at the same time. So next time there's a storm outside, bring the joy indoors by building your fort or tent.

Summary

So, don't let a tight budget keep you from having a great summer. There are plenty of affordable things to do that will keep everyone happy and entertained. What are you waiting for? Get out there and have some fun!
